Incredible find! This is one of the actual 1986 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Cars, serial number 72, for the 1986 Indianapolis 500 with just 1005 original miles, complete with the safety light system from the race.
1986 marked the first year the Corvette had been offered in a convertible since 1975. Although all Corvette Convertibles sold that year were designated as Pace Car replicas regardless of color or options and came with the decal package from the factory, this car, serial number 72, was shipped directly from the factory to CPC Group Engineering Center where they were fitted with the lighting systems for use on track. This is per the shipping document (see picture) obtained directly from the Corvette Museum. This car was then kept in General Motors' collection until the collection was liquidated. It features a custom dash plaque, the original Pace Car graphics, and complete safety light system including the amber light bar and vehicle light strobe control modules.
Corvette collectors, Pace Car collectors, and museums will want this car in their collection!
